Wokha DPDB meets at KVK Satsuphen, assures support to centre for betterment of farming sector

Wokha: MLA Achumbemo Kikon appeals to Naga people to put to rest matter relating to the comments made by Minister CL John

The Wokha District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) met for the month of September at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Satsuphen, Wokha on 15 September 2023, DPRO & I/A Wokha informed. Nagaland Advisor for Agriculture and Chairman DPDB Wokha, Mhathung Yanthan, MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe and MLA Achumbemo Kikon attended the meeting.

Chairman, DPDB, Mhathung Yanthan in his opening remark thanked the KVK Centre for hosting the program and he also welcomed the ICAR representatives in the meeting. While commending the activities of KVK in Wokha District, Yanthan also urged all the agri & allied departments to work closely with the centre, and added KVK and its activities should be supported to see that progress and development especially in the farming sectors in the district.

KVK Wokha in-charge, Sr. Scientist Dr Moa Akhum welcomed the Board members to the centre and highlighted the activities of KVK in the district. He informed that KVK Wokha Centre was established in 2006 and is manned by six specialists in animal science, agronomist, horticulture, agriculture extension, soil science, plant & genetic and a program assistant.

The functional system of KVK is based on research based development, he said, adding that the objective of KVK in the District is to disseminate information to the farmers on farm trails, front line demonstration, capacity building training as well as impart vocational training to help farmers improve their productivity through agri and allied sector including horticulture.

Special invitees to the meeting, representing ICAR (Medziphema), Dr Mahek Singh said that ICAR centre Nagaland, established in 1975, is particularly a research organisation to develop agricultural technology specified to different climate zone of Nagaland. These technologies are transferred to the farmers for the agriculture activities, animal farming, livestock farming etc, to help the farmers of the state for economic sustainability, he informed.

MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, while thanking the KVK for hosting the meeting, assured the centre that in his own capacity he will improve the approached road from KVK Centre to NH2.

MLA Achumbemo Kikon appealed to the Naga people to put to rest the matter relating to the comments made by Minister CL John in the recently concluded assembly session. Kikon said that he raised the issue of human-elephant conflict in Wokha district as it concerns his constituency and replying to the question, the minister had unintentionally and inadvertently hurt the sentiments of many people. However, the minister has apologised since then. “To err is human but to forgive is divine”, Kikon quoted.

Deputy Commissioner and Vice-Chairman DPDB Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan (IAS) conducted the following agendas, presentation, orientation on Elder Line 14567 for senior citizen.

State programme manager, Neithonuo Leigise highlighted on Elder Line Nagaland, a national helpline for senior citizens and added that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE), Govt of India, the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) and the respective State Governments through the Department of Social Welfare are launching the Toll Free National Helpline for Senior Citizens- Elder Line 14567, with the objective of expeditiously attending to the complaints and grievances of the senior citizens.

Advisor Yanthan, MLAs Humtsoe and Kikon, DC & Vice Chairman Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS jointly released a booklet on Compendium of Activities under ETF, during the meeting.

The Board also recommended for registration of Mt. Morarashan Club, Riphyim Society ande reviewd on aspirational villagers and deliberated on preparation on celebration of 50 years Golden Jubilee of Wokha District.
