The Wokha District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) has decided to request the state government for establishing a modern slaughter house.

The decision was made during the DPDB meeting held on 18 January at the DC’s conference hall in Wokha, stated a DIPR report.

Deputy Commissioner and vice chairman of DPDB Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS, chaired the meeting.

The house discussed the registration of ESEN Electrical Society, report on slaughter house, review of CMHIS for Wokha district and preparedness for the forthcoming elections.

Chief Veterinary Officer Wokha Dr Mhonchan Shitiri, while highlighting the status of slaughter houses in Wokha town, suggested that the slaughter house should be situated away from residential areas and have good facilities for hygiene.

He also said that as per the direction of the DPDB, a committee has been constituted with ADC and Administrator Wokha Town Council, CVO, CMO and FSO Wokha with the purpose to verify the status of slaughter houses in the town area.

Accordingly, the team inspected the slaughter houses in and around Wokha town and has suggested the following points – relocation of the present slaughter house and lairage away from residential area, regulation of transportation, animal slaughter licensing and meat inspection, and regulation of meat scale counter.

The committee also suggested that the district needs to have a modern slaughter house. The board members deliberated on the matter and decided to request the state government for establishing a modern slaughter house in the district.

On review of the CMHIS for Wokha district, the DC said those departments who are yet to register are informed to do so at the earliest for the benefit of all the government employees.

While briefing the members for the forthcoming elections, Ranjan stated once the elections are announced, the election Mode of Conduct will be enforced, where all department heads and staff will be assigned with various responsibilities to be carried out for the smooth conduct of the elections. He also urged all concerned to gear up to ensure that there is no laxity on the part of the employees while in the process of executing election related activities.

He stated that the target is to ensure that there should be no-violence and no-re-poll in the district during the forthcoming elections.

The DC also warned that government servants/employees are not to take part or engage in any election activity in promotion of a particular candidate. He added that lapses on the part of government employees during the election process will be dealt with seriously and action initiated with zero tolerance against those erring employees.

The DC urged all to perform their assigned responsibilities with outmost dedication.
