Wokha DSO, DSC present PCP Air Rifle to Wokha District Rifle Association

Wokha: With availability of rifle, association will conduct regular practice sessions, says President of WDRA

The District Sports Office, Wokha and the District Sports Council, Wokha presented a PCP Air Rifle to the Wokha District Rifle Association (WDRA) on Sunday at an intimate felicitation programme held at Likya Colony, Wokha.

Speaking at the programme, Libemo Jami, the District Sports Officer of Wokha, explained that the gesture was an act of gratitude and acknowledgement to the relentless efforts of the Association in promoting the sport despite facing challenges such as inadequate equipment.

He highlighted the noteworthy performance showcase by the Wokha District Rifle Association during the 2nd Edition of the Nagaland Para Olympic Games in 2022 where despite encountering hurdles due to the lack of shooting facilities, the Association secured one Gold Medal and 2 Bronze Medals for the District.

Jami expressed gratitude towards Deputy Commissioner Wokha and District Sports Council Chairman Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS, for his keen interest in procuring the PCP Air Rifle for the Association and urged the WDRA to utilize the provided equipment to promote shooting among women and girls, emphasizing the District Sports Council Wokha’s commitment to empowering women in sports.

The President of the Wokha District Rifle Association, T Renphyo Humtsoe expressed appreciation for the support and acknowledged the Deputy Commissioner and the District Youth Resource Officer. Humtsoe outlined the association’s vision, which includes talent scouting initiatives reaching schools and villages, with a particular emphasis on encouraging female participation.

Humtsoe also highlighted the natural shooting talent inherent among the Nagas, expressing optimism that with the availability of the rifle, the association would conduct regular practice sessions, with the aim of nurturing more shooters in the future.
