Indian Social Responsibility Network (ISRN), Wokha unit organised a programme on COVID-19 vaccination for the teachers and students of Classes 9 and 10 of Fernbrook School, Wokha Town on Saturday.
The team was led by Akangkokla Namo, District Co-ordinator, IRSN Wokha.
The co-ordinator in her welcome address underlined the works of ISRN, which has been empanelled with the medical department to amplify COVID-19 vaccination since 2021 (schools, villages, communities) to educate and get them vaccinated.
A short speech on substance abuse was delivered by L. Oponthung Kinghen, District Consultant, National Urban Health Mission Wokha, where he stressed on the alarming use of drugs and alcohol by young students which is leading to a lot of problems physically and psychologically.
Excessive use of adulterated alcoholic drinks, locally-made wine and mixture of over-the-counter medicines have affected the youngsters to a large extend leading to drop outs, heart disease, blood pressure and possible death, he said.
Kinghen also stressed that combining drugs with alcohol, and different drugs is proving very deadly. He encouraged the members present to stay away from drugs and alcohol and be safe.

Verakho, Block Co-ordinator, Wokha sardar also talked on the misconception that people have in regard with vaccination.
He further said vaccine is not a substance to cure, but a preventive measure and a person who is vaccinated is immunized to fight the pandemic. He encouraged the members not to be carried away by false information and get vaccinated since it is safe.
A prepared speech competition was also conducted on the theme ‘Importance of Covid vaccination’. The judges were L. Oponthung Kinghen and Verakho.
The winners were:
1st Ethel Y.Mozhui of Class 10
2nd Mhachoni K. Humtsoe of Class 9
3rd Benrithung T. Odyuo of Class 10.
All the participants were awarded with certificates and prizes.
