Wokha: Highlanders CC Dimapur defeated Juggernauts CC Wokha in a close encounter to lift the trophy

The 27th edition of the T20 Open Winter Cricket Challenge which began on 23 December 2022 concluded today at Public Local Ground, Wokha.

The cricket tournament was organised by The Senior Noble Klan (SNK) under the aegis of the Nagaland Cricket Association with Wokha Forest Division. 17 league teams took part in the tournament.

In the final match held today, Highlanders CC Dimapur defeated Juggernauts CC Wokha in a close encounter to lift the trophy of the coveted T20 Open Winter Cricket Challenge Wokha.

The winning team Highlanders CC Dimapur was awarded Rs 1 lakh which was sponsored by the Nagaland Cricket Association.

Trojan cricket tournament organiser Zunheboto attended the finals of the T20 Open Winter Cricket Challenge.

The second runners-up Juggernauts CC Wokha received Rs 50,000 while the losing semi-finalists STYRIX and EYL walked away with Rs 10,000 each.

The Trojan Cricket Tournament organisers of Zunheboto also came to witness the WCC grand finale and donated Rs 10,000.

Earlier in the morning before the final match, an exhibition match was played between DCXl and Board president (SNK) XI to raise funds for the SNK 25 years jubilee park which is situated at Airfield colony, Wokha. The exhibition match was won by SNK XI.

According to the organisers, a total of Rs 22,000 was raised for the cause from entry tickets and the contribution of well-wishers.

The cricket tournament was held under the theme ‘Green Cover Drive’ to join hands with the global fight for climate change by taking cricket as the medium. The organisers informed that the Wokha Forest Division has been sponsoring tree saplings to be distributed among the players for the last two years.

After 26 years, the WCC has now been adopted by the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA). From the 27th edition onwards, the Winter Cricket Challenge will be played under the aegis of the NCA and organised by The Senior Noble Klan (SNK).
