The Wokha Village Council has informed that the annual burning for the jhum cultivation in the fields at Humtso and Elumyo Road will be done on 11th March 2024 (Monday).
In this regard, Village Council Chairman, Vandan Erui has written to the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha informing of the scheduled agricultural activity and to urge the office to inform the citizens of Wokha Town as precaution and safety measure.

The jhum cultivation, also known as shifting cultivation and slash-and-burn cultivation, is a common agricultural practice across Nagaland where forests are burned before the plantation of crops. This burning activity takes place during this prevailing dry and windy season that poses risks of uncontrolled fire.
