Wokha Town Councillor for Ward-10, Thungchano Kikon, initiated a special plantation drive in the six colonies that fall under the Ward. Carried out under the theme “CHERRY 10 & GO GREEN”, the aim of the drive was the preservation of the indigenous cherry tree and other indigenous plants and to create awareness about the importance of plantation and preserving healthy environment.
Around 1500 saplings including wild apples and other indigenous saplings were planted in all the six colonies.
Before the distribution and planting of saplings was carried out, a formal function was held at the residence of Chief Medical Officer, Wokha, Dr Zuben Kikon at Blue Hill Colony, Wokha Town.
In her speech, Councillor Thungchano Kikon stressed on the importance of preserving nature by planting more trees as it is very necessary because trees provide oxygen to the environment and make the air quality better. She also added that planting more trees will create a greener and healthier earth for the future generation.
The Councillor and the colony members expressed gratitude and appreciation to District Forest Ranger, Wokha, Grace Kikon for her assistance in arranging the samplings.
