Woman from Nagaland alleges rape, forced religious conversion by fiancé in Bhopal

Bhopal: The woman alleged that she came into contact with the accused, a mason, through a social media platform

Koh-e-Fiza police in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on Friday registered a case against a 26-year-old man and his mother on charges of abduction, rape, assault, and forced religious conversion after complaint filed by a 21-year-old woman from Nagaland, a Times of India report stated.

According to TOI, the investigation officer, SI Pradeep Gurjar stated the woman, who runs a boutique had alleged that she came into contact with the accused, Krishnapal, also known as Rakesh Kori, who hails from Ganj Basoda in Vidisha, about a year ago. Krishnapal works as a mason and initiated communication with the woman through social media platform. Their friendship progressed, and he eventually proposed marriage to her and upon her agreement, he brought her to Bhopal and rented a room in the Koh-e-Fiza locality, where they started living together.

SI Gurjar said that woman claimed that Krishnapal’s behaviour towards her changed after a few days. He began drinking and would assault her while under the influence. The accused then took her to his hometown in Ganj Basoda, where his mother also mistreated her. Subsequently, Krishnapal and his mother forced her to convert her religion in order to marry him. Frustrated with the harassment, the woman approached the Koh-e-Fiza police and filed a complaint, TOI further reported.
