State Election Commissioner, T. John Longkumer, IPS (Retd) remarked on Saturday that for the first time in history, the reservation for the women in the Nagaland Urban Local Body Election 2024 had 198 women filing their nominations and women participating eagerly in casting their votes was a symbolic way of expressing that women have won.
Addressing a press conference with regard to the recently concluded ULB Election 2024, Longkumer expressed his gratitude to the Civil Administration, Election staff, Nagaland Police, NGOs, Church Organizations, Tribal Hohos and polling personnel that has made the State Election Commission to carry out the processes of this election peacefully, a DIPR report stated.
The State Election Commissioner said that counting of votes in most of the district have been completed, except for Dimapur district which was delayed due to the process of verification, checking etc. He highlighted that the ULB election was conducted peaceful without any serious incidents, except for a few minor issues based on the complains where a case been registered in Mokokchung district and a repoll conducted at Dimapur Ward 4 under the relevant Article of the Nagaland Municipal Act and a case been filed in this matter to be investigated thereafter.
According to DIPR, the Commissioner also highlighted that the police have conducted a preventive detention of 553 individuals all over the state before the polling day, recovered arm from an abandoned vehicle, registered 21 cases due to shuffles and arrested 22 persons, he also briefed about cash amounting to Rs. 2,48,730 seized from the campus of polling station in Dimapur which after proper verification belonged to a businessman for his business.
Additional Commissioner, State Election Commission, L. Jamithung Lotha, NCS and Police Nodal Officer, PHQ, Rankathung Vikram Ezung, AIG also gave a brief overall report on the recently conducted ULB election while Under Secretary, SEC Tsutsowe Kupaing highlighted the data statistic of the state ULB election.
