The inaugural session of the 7-Day Workshop on “Advances in Research and Methodology” being organised by the Dept of Zoology, Nagaland University, Lumami got underway on March 4, 2025. The session was chaired by Dr. Ramita Sougrakpam, Assistant Professor. In his welcome address, Prof. Bendang Ao, Head, Department of Zoology, expressed gratitude to the attendees and emphasized the importance of such workshops in fostering academic growth and research excellence. Prof. Ranjit Kumar, the Convenor, provided an overview of the workshop highlighting the key objectives, which included familiarizing participants with advanced research tools, software for data analysis, and techniques for creating scientific diagrams. Prof. Kumar also stressed the importance of integrating modern methodologies into research practices to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
While Priyakshi Sinha mesmerized the audience with a melodious song, Khanwang G. Konyak rendered a traditional Naga song, “Zowe Keleu Eyimi”, adding a cultural touch to the session. In his address, Prof. M.K. Sinha, the Chief Guest, underscored the inevitability of advancement and development in society. Drawing parallels between traditional teaching methods, such as chalk and blackboard, and modern tools like smart boards, he emphasized the need for continuous innovation in research.

Prof. Sinha highlighted the critical role of research in driving economic development and urged participants to embrace innovative ideas to contribute meaningfully to scientific progress.
Prof. M.S. Rawat, the Guest of Honour, spoke on the significance of integrating advanced research methodologies to enhance the accuracy and interpretability of scientific data. He emphasized the importance of publishing high-quality research in reputed journals and noted that developed countries lead in this regard. Prof. Rawat encouraged Indian researchers to step up their efforts to make significant contributions to the global scientific community. He also commended the Dept. of Zoology for the workshop, as it would benefit young scholars in honing their research skills. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Khangpila Sangtam, Research Scholar.
