Workshop on healthy living held at Mokokchung College of Teacher Education

Mokokchung: Four sessions were conducted on the first day on the topics – Physical Fitness and Benefits of Exercise, Diet and Nutrition, First Aid and Fitness Session

The Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE) organized a two-day workshop on healthy living under the theme ‘Rejuvenating Fitness for Healthy Living’ with Avisa Chase as the resource person of the workshop held on 1-2 November.

Avisa Chase is a Physical Education Teacher under the Department of School Education. He is also an aerobics fitness instructor, a lifeguard and swimming instructor, a certified diet & nutrition counselor, and a certified first-aider.

Four sessions were conducted on the first day on the topics – Physical Fitness and Benefits of Exercise, Diet and Nutrition, First Aid and Fitness Session.

The resource person gave a detailed presentation on the importance of physical fitness and exercise. He advocated against comparing one’s body with others’ bodies.

Chase stated, “It is not about being the best; it is about being better than you were yesterday”.

He also emphasized on the importance of Diet and Nutrition and to maintain balanced diet for healthy living stating, “Eat your food like medicine”.

The session also witnessed practical demonstration on the importance of first-aid for fainting, nosebleed, sprain and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). During the fitness session the Chase further briefed on the importance of staying fit.

Day two witnessed a detailed theory presentation on various athletics games such as 100m, 200m, 4×100 relay race, shot put, discus throw, high jump and long jump followed by practicals on the field.

The workshop culminated with Toshi Imchen of 3rd Semester and Tsachumse H Sangtam of 1st Semester sharing their ‘Workshop Reflections’, followed by a Zumba dance session where both faculty and students of Mokokchung College of Teacher Education participated.
