Leveraging the learnings and achievements of eVIN and CoWIN in ensuring seamless management of UIP/COVID vaccines and digital platform enabling real-time tracking and management of beneficiaries and vaccination, MoHFW has planned to build a third pillar based on the existing eVIN and CoWIN platforms for digitizing the routine immunization services in the country through U-WIN.

The U-WIN platform, launched on 11 January 2023 in 65 pilot districts across India, is based on the CoWIN database which served as the “digital backbone” for India’s COVID-19 vaccination programme. The U-WIN platform will be the digital solution to facilitate tracking of every pregnant woman, new-born, child and adolescent for vaccination.

The system will allow planning of vaccination sessions, registration of beneficiaries, updating of vaccination status digitally on real-time basis from the last mile of service delivery by the vaccinator, recording and reporting of all data for the UIP.

For pregnant women and children, vaccine acknowledgement and immunisation card linked to ABHA ID (Ayushman Bharat Heath Account) will be generated and all states and districts will have access to a common secure database to track and vaccinate beneficiaries.

Nagaland has already successfully implemented U-WIN in two selected pilot districts of Dimapur and Peren and through which, the entire vaccination system including records is getting digitised, easing the tracking of beneficiaries. Currently, all vaccination records under UIP are being maintained manually which with the adoption of U-WIN will do away with the hassle of keeping physical records. It will enable digitisation of session planning and updating vaccination status on a real-time basis.

Through this platform, citizens will be able to check nearby ongoing routine immunisation sessions and book appointments. Beneficiaries would be able to plan and book slots for vaccination in advance as well as avail on spot registration and vaccination services. Once the whole immunisation programme is digitised, beneficiaries will get digital certificates stored in secure Digi-lockers on the spot and will also be able to download them anytime they need it.

U-WIN will support in improving vaccination coverage by facilitating appropriate intervals between doses, digital verification and tracking of beneficiaries, promoting consistency in vaccination schedules and communication with beneficiaries.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be using U-WIN platform in upcoming Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 5.0 to be conducted for three months (August-October 2023) with the intention to vaccinate all children upto 5 years of age and pregnant women who have missed any of their due routine immunization vaccine doses as per Universal Immunization Programme schedule. All such beneficiaries will be registered on U-WIN and vaccinated in specially planned IMI sessions.
