World Blood Donor’s day observed in Kohima

The Voluntary Blood Donor’s Association Kohima (VBDAK) in collaboration with Nagaland Institute of Medical Science & Research observed the World Blood Donor’s day at Nagaland Institute of Medical Science & Research Centre, Kohima with a host of activities and blood donation camp.

Special Guest of the program, Director cum Dean, NIMSR Prof. Dr. Soumya Chakraborty in her address said that there is no side effect for Blood donation and she herself has donated 22 times, informed a DIPR report. “Accident related victims, diseases and pandemic required constant demand for Blood Donation, but demand for blood donation for the three cases out of ten cases don’t get Blood when required. There is no substitute for Blood so donation is the only way around to address the supply of Blood in order to save human life. The advantages of Blood donor is there are likely not to suffer from blood related diseases,” asserted Dr. Chakraborty.

Speaking on the importance of Voluntary Blood Donation, Medical Officer Blood Center NHAK, Dr. Avila Sangtam said many patients are waiting in hospital for blood to get their operation done. “Today is a day to thank all the Voluntary Blood Donors for the positive response whenever there is demand for Blood donation. These days more people are coming forward to donate their blood knowing that their small deeds can save many lives,” stated Dr. Sangtam.

Sentimongla Tzudir, Executive member VBDAK led the program, while the felicitation & induction of Life Members was done by VBDAK President, Ainato Yeptho. Special numbers were presented by Nguvito Tsuipu and NIMSR students while a short speech and Pledge was administered by Jentiren Jamir and vote of thanks delivered by founding President VBDAK Alipoker.

All together 41 person donated blood on the occasion of World Blood Donor’s day celebration.
