World Day Against Child Labour observed at Longleng

Longleng: Phomla Hoichem urges every individual to take up responsibility to educate people against child labour

Longleng District Administration, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and Sakhi – One Stop Centre observed World Day Against Child Labour on Monday under the theme “Week of Action Against Child Labour”, DIPR informed.

Trongdiba Sangtam, SDO(C) Hq. Longleng, Nodal Officer to BBBP and One Stop Centre, speaking on the theme, disseminated information on the International Labour Organization (ILO) and encouraged the gathering that every individual should be responsible for spreading awareness at the grassroots level about child labour. Sangtam added that, as parents, he/she should be responsible and capable of looking after their children.

He also spoke about the upliftment of girl children under BBBP and the need to spread awareness on issues of inequalities faced by girl children. Since its implementation, he stated that Longleng district has a good report on BBBP and there is also an increase in the sex ratio of females and most importantly drastic improvement in the field of education.

Mano Phom, President, Phomla Hoichem, strongly asserted the world must fight against child labour. She encouraged the women folk not to send their children to other places on false promises of education, adding that the children instead face physical, verbal, and mental violence and in many places, children are also deprived of their basic rights. She requested every individual to take up the responsibility to educate the people against child labour.

Earlier in the program held at Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC) hall, B Bauom Phom from Sakhi – One Stop Centre encouraged women to inform those women in need of the services provided at OSC Longleng, she urged every woman to voice out against any form of violence bravely.

Chingkumtenla, Women President Agri Ward pronounced the invocation, and the program was chaired by Nyangyungsangla.
