Kohima
The Angami Youth Organisation in collaboration with the Department of School Education observed World Environment Day under the theme “Go green, breathe clean” on Monday here at the Naga Heritage, Kisama village.
The occasion was graced by Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome.
School and college students from Southern Angami Villages also participated. Plantation and cleanliness drive was carried out in Kisama after the formal session.
Mention maybe made that AYO had adopted a resolution in the year 2010 to protect the environment and fauna and till date the youth organisation has been implementing the resolution.
Dimapur
Commemorating the World Environment Day, a tree plantation drive and beautification of Dimapur city was carried out by the members of the Dimapur District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) members, at different locations under Dimapur district, DIPR stated.
This was in pursuance to the DPDB Dimapur meeting, which was held on Monday under the Chairmanship of Advisor, Labour, Employment & Skill Development and Excise, and chairman, Dimapur DPDB, Moatoshi Longkumer.
A committee headed by ADC Dimapur, Mhalo Humstoe as convenor and DFO and DHO as members identified DC court junction to Duncan, Ao Church junction Khermahal, Essar Pump to old Dhansiri bridge (both sides of the road) and supermarket junction to circuit house entrance for tree plantation and beautification of Dimapur city to be taken up by DPDB Dimapur.
Accordingly, DFO office provided Bakul-Spanish Cherry and Ajar tree-Lagerstroemia saplings, DHO office Dimapur provided manure. As directed, the DPDB members along with their staff brought iron tree guards to the spot/ area assigned to them and planted the saplings and also cleaned up the garbage dumps in their designated plantation areas and observed the day in a befitting manner.
Pungro Town
To commemorate World Environment Day, Advisor S. Kiusumew launched the plantation and beautification drive under PMKSY-WDC 2.0, under the theme “Water for the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” at ADC Office, Pungro Town.
DIPR informed that during the program, the distribution of Plant Saplings was initiated by the Department of Land Resources Kiphire, Nagaland in collaboration with Pungro Town Students’ Union, Pungro Village Students’ Union, Pewrenvong Welfare Society, CFL Pungro, CRISIL Foundation Friends’ of Nature Conservation & North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA).
Keynote was addressed by Yitachu Thurr, EAC Pungro. The programme was invoked by Rev. Fr. Peter, St.Paul Parish Priest, Pungro.
Tizit
Commemorating World Environment Day, the Tizit Administration organized a mass social work in all government offices, institutions, and wards at Tizit on Monday.
People from all walks of life participated in cleaning their respective offices, institutions, and colonies.
Longleng
DEF Longleng observed World Environment Day 2023 at SP’s Office Longleng on Monday by organising Tree Plantation and Cleanliness Drive. Altogether 300 saplings were planted at SP’s Office premises, New Police Reserve Hamlikong, and New Site Bhumnyu.
A short programme was conducted before the start of the plantation drive at SP’s Office Longleng where SP Longleng Dr Pritpal Kaur Batra, IPS, emphasized the need for Environmental protection and stressed the benefits of planting more trees for humanity and Environmental conservation.
Pughoboto:
MLA Dr. Sukhato A. Sema said World Environment Day is celebrated to spread awareness about the environment and also motivate others to do the same with the hope of creating a better future while speaking on the occasion at Pughoboto town, DIPR stated. He informed that as society modernizes, the environment gets affected due to the adoption of technologies and resources that are quite harmful to the environment. He emphasized the need for proper waste management and appealed to all the gathering to plant at least one tree each.
Kihoto Wotsa shared the significance of the World Environment Day celebration. ADC Pughoboto, Tiameren Chang thanked all the participants and added that together people can create a better Environment for the future generation.
Pangthet Team, Monyakshu Village, Mon
A plantation drive in and around Monyakshu Village, Mon was organised where around 200 saplings were planted on account of the World Environment Day 2023 under the slogan “Plant Trees Eradicate Pollution”.
Pangthet is a team of unemployed youth from Monyakshu Village under Mon district its with main objective being to give a voluntary helping hand to the poor and the needy. The team has been initiating plantation drive and has organized other social activities since its inception in 2021. The team extended gratitude to the Theological Fellowship of Monyakshu for rendering assistance during the plantation.
Tening
Along with the rest of the World, Tening sub-division observed World Environment Day. The occasion was organized by Tening Students Union Nagaland (TSUN) in collaboration with Forest Department Tening. All four schools of Tening- Baptist High School, Zeliangrong Heraka School, SFS School, and Govt Higher Secondary School Tening participated along with the civil body representatives.
After the plantation drive, a short speech was delivered by Imliwabang Aier, EAC Tening on the theme – BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION.
Saplings were provided by Forest Department. The plantation drive was carried out from Government Higher Secondary School to the New ADC Complex compound.
Chiephobozou, Kohima
Chiephobozou Office in collaboration with Chiephobozou Town Council & Range Office Chiephobozou, Forest Department organised various programme at ADC Office Chiephobozou under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
During the programme EAC Chiephobozou, Ane Khieya gave a speech on World Environment Day while EAC Botsa, Arhonbeni Ezung spoke on the theme and RRR (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle).
The day long activities included tree plantation drive, distribution of tree sapling and prize distribution of painting competition on the theme “Lifestyle for environment”.
Pathso Nokeng village, Noklak district
An event was organized by Bamboo School in collaboration with Pathso Nokeng Students’ Union (PNSU) and supported by North East Network (NEN), to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices.
The event was hosted by K Muchu, Field Coordinator at NEN. Short speeches were delivered on tackling plastic pollution under the campaign #beatplasticpollution by EAC Panso, Echungbemo Euri, and Pongsa, a concerned citizen of the village, DIPR informed.
Euri connected the audience with his insightful talk on how the area can be maintained free from plastic pollution. He shared that the area is still more or less free from plastic pollution due to less urbanization and developmental activities. He encouraged the gatherings to start sincere practice as a way of life for the preservation of the environment. The EAC suggested some practices, like doing away with one-use plastic bags and adopting eco-friendly habits. He emphasized the urgent need to adopt sustainable alternatives and reduce plastic consumption to protect the planet. Meanwhile, Pongsa presented a comprehensive explanation of the theme, the effects of pollution on the environment, both living and non-living beings, and the need for environmental preservation.
Following the informative session, a plantation drive was conducted, where volunteers from Bamboo School, Pathso Nokeng Students’ Union, and concerned citizens participated by planting indigenous and locally available saplings.
PWD South Division, Kohima
The Division led by Executive Engineer South, Er. Vizotuo Seletsu carried out a plantation drive in all PMGSY road under Southern area of Kohima district.
The Plantation drive started at PMGSY road Phesama. The team planted tree sapling of oak, wild apple and cherry during the drive.
Zisaji Presidency College Kiphire
The college in collaboration with the Department of Forest, Land Resources, Water Resources, Horticulture, and PHED celebrated WED 2023 with the theme “Let’s Do Better To Beat Plastic Pollution”.
According to DIPR, Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, John Tsulise Sangtam in his speech said that World Environment Day is celebrated to have a healthy life and environment. He encouraged every individual to take it seriously by planting more trees to avoid soil erosion. Sangtam also added that the use of plastic has become a major problem so to tackle this issue let’s create awareness among ourselves and take it as a serious responsibility.
The programme was chaired by Lipichum Sangtam DPO Department of Land Resources, welcome address by Purna Chandra Mishra Principal I/C, and a special presentation was done by the students followed by the inauguration of the spring box and a visit to contour trenches by the special guest.
Later ceremonial tree plantation was followed by all the HoDs.
Yachem Students’ Union, Longleng
The students’ union initiated a plantation drive at PMGSY-II road from Yachem to Dikhu on 5th June 2023 in collaboration with the District Forest Division, Longleng. During the drive, the Union planted more than 200 saplings.
In Longleng HQ, Yachem Students’ Unit, Longleng conducted social work at Herbal Garden at Yingli College.
Kohima Village Students’ Union
KVSU, in collaboration with 1st (Lushai Hills) Assam Rifle, Kohima observed World Environment Day today under the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution cum Plantation Drive’ at Kohima Village VDB road (below IG Stadium).
Various organization leaders and village elders also took part in this initiative. All together over 100 volunteers participated in the Plantation Drive planting over 200 tree saplings.
The union with its primary motive to contribute to a greener environment and sustainable living also distributed free car stickers to taxi’s and private cars to spread awareness and share the importance of an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Khiamniungan Theological Association
KTA carried out tree plantation starting from Noklak towards Tuensang Road on World Environment Day.
Mokokchung and Mon
Assam Rifles organised a mass plantation drive to contribute towards green Earth initiative at various locations of Mokokchung and Mon districts of Nagaland. The youth were motivated to plant one tree on their birthdays.
Shamator
Live demonstration of paper bag making and shopping bags was organized by NorthEast Network in collaboration with Self Employed Women Association, Shamator on the occasion of World Environment Day at Shamator.
