World Red Cross Day: Governor La Ganesan call for collective compassion

Governor of Nagaland and president of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland

State Branch (IRCSN) La Ganesan graced the World Red Cross Day observation in Kohima on May 8 held at the Red Cross Complex.

In his address, the Governor called for collective compassion and increased youth involvement in humanitarian services. He lauded the efforts of the Red Cross volunteers and staff in the state, acknowledging their role in reaching vulnerable communities, especially during natural disasters and emergencies.

Ganesan underscored that the Red Cross worldwide embodies the spirit of hope, empathy and

kindness, and values that define humanity in the face of adversity.

“Your work is not merely a duty, it is a testament to the power of collective compassion,” the Governor said.

Referring to this year’s theme of the Red Cross Day celebration, “Through Humanity to Peace”, the Governor encouraged everyone to reflect on the true meaning of being humane. He said empathy connects people to each other’s suffering, and kindness remains a universal language understood by all.

Governor Ganesan made a special appeal to the youth of Nagaland, urging them to join the noble mission of service. “You are not just the leaders of tomorrow; you are the change makers of today. The challenges of our time, climate change, health crises and social inequity require your energy and idealism,” he stated. He further stressed the importance of nurturing empathy from a young age by instilling values of compassion and service at home and in schools.

An update from the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Raj Bhavan said during the programme, IRCSN MC member Dr. R Rose Chakhesang highlighted the theme of the programme while IRCSN general secretary Akhale V Khamo read out the Secretary General’s message. The Junior Red Cross, Bayavu English School, Kohima presented a song at the event.

Following the formal programme, the Governor visited the Nagaland Voluntary Blood Donors’ Association of Nagaland. He is also the chief patron of the association.
