BY | Friday, 27 September, 2024

World Tourism Day is observed on 27th September annually which was initiated by United Nation World Tourism Organisation since 1970 to raise awareness on its impact; culturally, politically and economic values worldwide highlighting the significance of tourism on a global and international scale.

WTD also becomes a platform in which various places and countries around the world put emphasis on tourism as a means of fostering connections, understanding diverse cultures and promoting sustainable practices.

On the grand occasion, António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General states, “Tourism brings people together. On this World Tourism Day, we reflect on the profound connection between tourism and peace. Sustainable tourism can transform communities – creating jobs, fostering inclusion and strengthening local economies.”

Focusing on the values and preservation of culture, he stated that tourism plays a vital key in nurturing peace and economic interdependence between neighbours, encouraging cooperation and peaceful development. “Every traveller can be an ambassador, engaging respectfully with local populations, recognizing our diversity and shared humanity, and the values that unite us all. As we celebrate tourism, let us travel responsibly, build bridges, and promote mutual respect among cultures and nations.”
