A wreath-laying ceremony with full military honours was organised at HQ Eastern Command, Kolkata on Thursday for Rifleman Alok Rao of 18 Assam Rifles who made the supreme sacrifice in Manipur, the Assam Rifles informed. Rao sustained gunshot wound on 10 May 2023 during an operation in Manipur and succumbed to his injury at Command Hospital, Kolkata on Wednesday.

It had been informed that Rao was 22-years-old and is survived by his parents. He is from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

Manipur’s security advisor Kuldeep Singh told media persons on 10 May that security personnel and suspected Kuki militants were engaged in firing near Utonglok area in Manipur’s Imphal East district.and in the encounter, Rifleman Alok Rao sustained bullet injuries in his abdomen.

On Wednesday, the Spear Corps, Indian Army condoled the death and wrote on Twitter, “Rifleman Alok Rao of 18 Assam Rifles,who sustained gunshot wound on 10 May, in an operation in #Manipur,succumbed to his injury at Command Hospital Kolkata on 17 May. Spear Corps offers deepest condolences for the supreme sacrifice & stands firmly with the bereaved family”

Eastern Command, Indian Army wrote, “Lt Gen RP Kalita #ArmyCdrEC & All ranks offer tributes to the supreme sacrifice of Rifleman Alok Rao of 18 Assam Rifles, who laid down his life during operations in #Manipur. #IndianArmy stands firm with the bereaved family.”
