Y .Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, visited the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Zunheboto on 12th July, 2024 and had an interaction session with the officers and staff of the office, informed DIPR.
Addressing the meeting, Kikheto Sema called upon the staff to be sincere towards their job. He asked them to work on sensitising and creating awareness among the people for protection and conservation of environment and biodiversity. He appealed the department to be agents and ambassadors of prevention of climate change.

Further, he suggested that DEFCC should work in coordination with district administration and civil societies in changing the mind-sets of the masses for tree plantation and wildlife conservation.
Kikheto Sema suggested to focus on waste management, initiatives, reduction of pollution and wildlife protection whilst also caring for the forests. He further emphasised on creating awareness bringing the example of NBCC and how it has dedicated the first Sunday of June, annually, to prevent climate change and conserve bio-diversity.
“We cannot run away from climate change, we cannot fight nature but we have to opt for the sustainable living which is in sync with nature,” he said. He also called for the need to protect mother nature for the future generations.
