The 3-day event of the 10th Edition of the Yachem Students’ Union Football Tournament began today at Local Ground, Yachem with Lipok Pongen, JE, DRDA, Longleng as the Special Guest.

The special guest appreciated the Yachem Students’ Union for hosting the tournament for the last many years since its establishment in the year 2010. He emphasized on the importance of approaching young players in a holistic manner, identifying their skills, talents by taking the advantage of this tournament as a promotional platform.

He encouraged the players and students’ fraternity to maintain discipline while playing the games and also to take up the profession with vision and determination.

As a young enthusiastic player, he called upon the participants to prioritize both education and sports so that one doesn’t face any challenges while playing in larger tournaments. He wished the Yachem Students’ Union to take forward the tournament more effectively even in the near future.

Giving an idea to initiate in establishing a sports academy in the near future so that young athletes can be promoted in proper order, he also exhorted the participants to have self-belief and to completely stay away from all the intoxicated stuffs in every walk of life.

Lastly, he pointed out there are many provisions in football itself, one can be physiotherapist, trainer and coach if only one stays fit and follow certain rules of sportsmanship.

In the programme, O Yanger Phom, Yachem Village Council Chairman (designate) delivered a short speech. The chairperson of the program was Manngai H Phom, Assistant Education Secy, YSU and P Chingnyüongshem, President of the Yachem Students’ Union delivered the welcome note, special song was presented by Sanglen & Kongmei.

Invocation was pronounced by Rev M Adao, Pastor, Yachem Baptist Attoi and benediction by Y Sangla, President Yachem Anüti Lunglak.
