Yanthamo Village, Nyiro Range Students’ Union condemn child abuse in Wokha Town

The Yanthamo Village Council, Eloe Ekhung Yanthamo, Yanthamo Village Students’ Union and Wokha Town Yanthamo Ekhung have strongly condemned the “inhumane and heinous act” of abuse meted on a minor child allegedly by a resident of Wokha Town.

Stating that the abused child is a bonafide resident of Yanthamo Village, the organizations expressed utmost anguish on the torture and trauma inflicted on the child and demanded immediate justice to the victim. They also urged the concerned authorities to take up the matter urgently in the interest of justice and future deterrence.

Further, the Unions extended sympathy and solidarity with the victim and the family and prayed that the victim will recover soon from the physical and mental trauma.

Meanwhile, the Nyiro Range Students’ Union (NRSU), in its statement, denounced the accused for committing “barbaric and heinous” and such ruthless and insane behaviour” on a minor child.

“It was very disheartening to learn of such incidence where the minor was abused and tortured on the pretext of giving a better life,” the Union stated while offering its sympathies to the victim and the family “who have suffered inhumane and excruciating mental trauma caused by this incident.”

NRSU acknowledged the swift action of the Wokha Child Welfare Committee and Wokha Police in rescuing the child and further urged law enforcing agencies to deliver justice and punish the culprit according to the law.

The Union also appealed to all the right-thinking citizens to condemn the act so that such evil practices will not occur in the future.
