In an exclusive interview with Nagaland Tribune, MLA Benei M. Lamthiu highlighted his vision for youth empowerment, sports infrastructure, and road development across his constituency, emphasizing long-term transformation through opportunity rather than dependence on government jobs.
Lamthiu stated that even before elections he was deeply concerned about the condition of young people in areas such as Pathso, Thonoknyu, and Kiusam, noting that many were falling behind in education and some drifting toward substance abuse. Determined to create an alternative path, he approached chief minister Neiphiu Rio, with a proposal to promote sports as a constructive outlet.
According to him, since Panso Headquarters already had a full-sized football ground, he requested construction of a futsal facility to further engage youth. The Chief Minister approved the idea, and the project has now materialized. Lamthiu urged young people to use sports as a tool to move away from addiction and toward healthier, purposeful lives, calling the new facility “a blessing if used in the right spirit.”
Addressing infrastructure gaps in sports, he expressed his concerns about talented players lacking proper facilities such as turf grounds, Lamthiu acknowledged that not only his constituency but many districts across Nagaland lag behind in sports infrastructure. He explained that the government is increasingly youth-oriented and views sports—especially football—as a viable career pathway. As General Secretary of the Nagaland Football Association, he said efforts are underway in coordination with government departments to ensure each district receives basic infrastructure before expanding to subdivisions.
He added that proposals have already been submitted and expressed confidence that districts such as Noklak will soon see improved facilities, though he did not provide a specific timeline.

On the matter of road connectivity, Lamthiu emphasized that improving roads remains a top priority. He confirmed that several proposals have been submitted under central schemes and are currently in process. Meanwhile, two projects have already been approved under state funding for this year:
Yokao Junction to Pathso road — expected completion within the current financial year Thonoknyu Town Circular Road — targeted for completion within the same period. He also mentioned ongoing works including PMJSY projects in Thonoknyu and the Kiusam–Pokphur intermediate road.
Stating that all projects cannot be completed simultaneously, Lamthiu assured that steady progress is underway. He stressed that development must follow a phased approach, beginning with district-level priorities before expanding to smaller subdivisions.
Further, a Futsal ground was inaugurated by MLA and Advisor, Agriculture, GoN, Mhathung Yanthan in the presence of MLA Benei M Lamthiu and other village leaders on February 24 at Panso town.
