Felicitation of medal winners (taekwondo) cum launching programme of scholarship to meritorious sports person and remedial class for academy trainees programme held at Hall A, IG Stadium, Kohima on Tuesday, a DIPR report stated.
Advisor of Youth Resources & Sports, S. Keoshu Yimchunger was the special guest of the programme where Shiusuthong Tikhir and Shiuthong were felicitated for winning Gold and Silver medals at the 36th National Sub-junior Taekwondo Championship held at Cuttack, Odisha. Manong Konyak, Thongti Thonger and Longkhon Phom were also awarded for winging Bronze in their respective categories at the 5th National Cadet Kyorugi and Poomsae Taekwondo Championship held at Kota, Rajasthan.

Yimchunger congratulated the medal winners and encouraged other trainees to work hard with dedication to achieve medals. He urged the trainees to be more disciplined and committed so that they would excel and lead them to go beyond others.
The advisor also highlighted the interest of the government of Nagaland towards the sports sector which is a promising avenue for people who are committed to sports as a carrier.
The government’s approach towards the new education policy which may be applied sooner in our state will be incorporating music, arts, handy craft, sports, etc., and will be very beneficial for career building for young people, he said. Many young talents in our state could not get enrolled in the sports academy so he asked all the trainees to make maximum use of the facilities, Yimchunger further added.

Director of Youth Resources & Sports, Akhumla Chuba highlighted the department’s initiative on the scholarship to meritorious sports persons in terms of cash in category wise and remedial classes for academy trainees in term tuition to cover the missed out subjects.
