The Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) in collaboration with Nagaland Empowerment of People through Energy Development” (NEPeD) observed International Day of Biological Diversity on Wednesday at Government Middle School, Zhavame village, Phek district under the theme – “Be Part of the Plan”.
The organisers have informed that over 83 students from different schools including St. Joseph’s School, Government Middle School, and Government Primary School participated in the event.
The speaker of the programme, Former President of ZSU, Ngapunyi Albert Krocha highlighted about the importance, role and issues concerning biodiversity amongst the stakeholders of biodiversity from different walks of life. He also dwelt on the need to get away from the materialistic world in order to save our one home, earth and our mother nature.
Krocha further urged the students to take bold actions that are necessary to save what is left of nature. “Biological diversity starts in the distant past and it points towards the future prepared by students to create awareness for the community”, he remarked.
In his keynote address, Joshua Rhi, President of Zhavame Students’ Union, called upon the students to “Be Part of the Plan” as the village is in dire need to place its biodiversity on a path to recovery as well as to create a more sustainable future for the community.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Khemo Domeh, former Vice President, ZSU, invocation by Chashülie Movi, Govt. Primary Teacher, while Liavi Shupao, Library Secy. ZSU proposed the vote of thanks. Other highlights of the programme included video presentation and discussion on biological diversity that is found in the village.
The celebration concluded with a pledge to protect the environment by making today’s choices and efforts in conserving our biological diversity either to bring happiness or sadness to the future generations.
