The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) won the Mizoram assembly election securing 27 seats out of the 40 seats in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. On Monday, December 4, the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared the election results of Mizoram.
ZPM is headed by IPS officer-turned-politician Lalduhoma who secured an absolute majority for the first time on December 4. According to ECI, the former ruling party Mizo National Front – MNF could only secure ten seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party – BJP secured only two seats. The Indian National Congress (INC) secured a single seat- Lawngtlai West.
Out of the 174 candidates, 16 women contested in the Mizoram’s 2023 elections. Out of the 16 candidates, only three women candidates won in the Mizoram Assembly elections. As per ECI data, Baryl Vanneihsangi and Lalrinpuii of Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and Prova Chakma of Mizo National Front (MNF) have won the elections.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to congratulate Lalduhoma and his party Zoram People’s Movement for the victory in the Mizoram Assembly elections. Modi also assured all possible support in furthering the progress of Mizoram.
“Congratulations to the Zoram People’s Movement and Mr. Lalduhoma for the victory in the Mizoram Assembly elections. I assure all possible support in furthering the progress of Mizoram,” tweeted Modi.
