Zujum village under the Bhandhari circle was officially given recognition today in an inaugural programme at the village with Deputy Chief minister Yanthungo Patton as the Special guest and MLA Achumbemo Kikon as the Guest of honour.
Chief guest, Y. Patton in his address, conveyed festive greetings to the people gathered and wished for abundant blessings for the village. He assured that the Assam-Nagaland border issue is on the path to resolution, encouraging villagers to settle in the plains. Patton asserted that since 1982, he advocated for people to settle down in the plain areas which is rightfully theirs. While stressing on the importance of physical occupation citing Assam’s widespread occupation, he narrated the incident on the inauguration of Jujanphen village near Uriamghat during his first term as an MLA. He also encouraged the villagers to create more villages in the plains areas with proper approvals.

The process for recognition of this village was pushed on 22 July in the year 2022 at the cabinet, stated Patton. The effort and insistence was also taken up by the then MLA Mhonlumo Kikon and the present sitting MLA Achumbemo kikon. Furthermore, the Minister also called for wildlife preservation, offering awards to villages issuing hunting bans. Mentioning about the matter within the Baptist Churches, he appealed for peace, unity and forgiveness among the churches.
Meanwhile, MLA Achumbemo Kikon highlighted on the importance of fostering a sense of belongingness and accepting one’s own native land while urging them to actively engage with their plains and utilize their land in those areas.
The programme was chaired by Thunglamo Kikon, Committee member, Zujum while the vote of thanks was delivered by Zanben Yanthan, Pastor AG church, Zujum. This was followed by a Feast.
