The 10th Inter-Departmental Tournament in Zunheboto District officially commenced on 7th September 2023 at the DSCZ Indoor Stadium, with G. Ikuto Zhimomi, Advisory for Land Resources, gracing the event as the special guest, DIPR informed. The sporting extravaganza is organized by the District Sports Council in Zunheboto and is slated to conclude on 9th September 2023.
Advisor G. Ikuto Zhimomi, in his address, quoted James Hawells and stated “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” to emphasise the need for such tournaments to refresh and rejuvenate employees who are often engrossed in their work. He encouraged all participants not only to strive for victory but also to embody the spirit of sportsmanship, which reflects an individual’s character.
Zhimomi stressed that while winning is important, fostering relationships should be the primary goal. The Advisor urged participants to utilize this opportunity for enjoyment, personal rejuvenation, increased work efficiency, and building strong bonds that can contribute to the development of their town and upliftment of their community in all aspects of life.
Earlier, the inaugural program of the 10th Inter-Departmental Tournament began with an invocation prayer by Kughavi V. Chishi, Pastor of NCRC. Deputy Commissioner Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS gave the welcome speech while the administration of the oath was done by Vikaho Zhimomi, member, DSCZ after which the Advisor declared the tournament officially open. A special song was presented by ANPSA(Z).
The departments are competing in badminton (both doubles and singles) and carrom (doubles). A total of 27 badminton doubles, 25 badminton singles, and 34 carrom doubles teams from various departments are participating in the 10th edition of the Zunheboto Inter-Departmental Tournament.
In an exhibition match played between Nagaland Under-11 & 13 (Nagaland State Champions 2023), Nagaland Under-13 emerged victorious with a straight-set win.
