The District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) Zunheboto held its monthly meeting under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Dharam Raj (IAS) at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Zunheboto on March 18.
The meeting commenced with a welcome address by the Deputy Commissioner followed by the introduction of new members to the house. While reviewing the agendas from the previous meeting, the proposal for change of nomenclature and relocation of Eden Garden School, Alahuto has been forwarded to the government. Similarly, the proposal for the establishment of the Sumi Naga Museum by the Sumi Youth Organization (SYO) has also been forwarded to the concerned authorities for necessary action. However, the proposal for the registration of the Sumi Anthropology Research Union could not be forwarded, as the society failed to provide sufficient evidence regarding the academic background of its members, particularly their expertise in anthropology.
During the meeting, several new agendas were discussed and forwarded to the concerned department. The proposal for registration of Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu, Aizuto Society was recommended for registration after a brief deliberation by the members. Another important agenda discussed was the establishment of a Sub-District Industries and Commerce Centre (SIDC) at Suruhuto. The Deputy Commissioner informed that the proposal can only be forwarded after submission by the concerned General Manager (Industries).

The meeting also deliberated on the concept of a Model Village, during which modalities and guidelines were discussed. The initiative aims at the overall development of society and the improvement of the Human Development Index (HDI). The Deputy Commissioner invited suggestions from members and emphasized the need for cooperation from all departments, as well as active participation and contribution from the community and the concerned village. It was highlighted that achieving 100 percent saturation in development indicators would be a key objective for the selected village in the next financial year.
Additionally, EAC (Development), Dr. L. Chuchong Noklang, presented the objectives and guidelines of an internship programme for students. Under this initiative, students who have completed their 4th semester at Zunheboto Government College will undergo a two-week internship in various government departments across Zunheboto district. The programme aims to help students understand the functioning of government departments and encourage them to contribute innovative ideas and suggestions for improvement. A total of 12 departments have consented to participate in the internship programme.
The DEO Zunheboto has been entrusted to present the activities of the Education Department in the next DPDB meeting.
