Zunheboto: First District Chess Tournament held; Girls Under-18 Badminton Tournament underway

Zunheboto: DC Mali encourages Zunheboto District Badminton Association officials to promote girls at state level

The first District Chess Tournament was held on 23rd and 24th October 2023 while the District Under-18 Badminton Tournament for Girls is underway in Zunheboto, DIPR informed.

The District Chess Tournament took place at youth hall, Zunheboto under the theme “Empowering younger generation through chess”. A total of 24 players in U-16 category and 21 players in open category are participating.

The tournament was graced by Zhekugha Assumi, Principal, Step by Step school and Advisor, Zunheboto Table Tennis Association as the Guest of Honour. He gave emphasis on the importance of chess and encouraged the players to focus not only on winning put that participating is equally important.

The Zunheboto District U-18 Badminton Tournament for Girls kicked off at Zunheboto indoor stadium on 23rd October 2023 with Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS as the Special Guest.

The Deputy Commissioner in his short speech encouraged the players to give their best and play in the true spirit of the game. According to DIPR, he encouraged the Zunheboto District Badminton Association officials to promote girls at state level while citing the examples of boxer Mary Kom and Saina Nehwal who sacrificed so much to succeed in their sport. DC Mali further encouraged the participants to take priority by working hard to be at the state level and at the national level too.

Earlier the program was chaired by Viveni H Yeptho, gender specialist District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) while Kihika. G. Sumi. General Secretary, (ZDBA) highlighted the players code of conduct of Badminton. A special number was presented by Nikina K Kiba.
