The Zunheboto District Administration organised a programme on Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) at the town hall in Zunheboto on 6 December.

The SVEEP programme focused on Clean Electoral Roll and Clean Election.

The deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS, and the superintendent of police, Zunheboto, Vishal Chauhan, IPS, were the programme speakers.

The DC reminded the gathering not to have any bias towards any candidate or any party whether it be a ruling cabinet, minister or others. All candidates are equal, he said.

Mail further assured the gathering that a free, fair and peaceful election would be conducted. He said the administration along with the SP of Zunheboto would ensure that the election is conducted fairly, which he added, is a core part of the Clean Election Campaign.

Acknowledging that “disturbing elements” such as alcohol and drug as well as the usage of money to lure voters can hamper the smooth process of elections, the DC asserted that the sternest actions would be taken towards violators and appealed to the people for their cooperation and support.

SP Vishal Chauhan spoke on how citizens can participate in the election without fear or influences. Our country foundation should depend upon the election, he added.

Stating that problems occur in the districts during elections and that their concern is for the people of Zunheboto, the SP said there are enough capable officers and security personnel to maintain peace in the district.

Hetoho Zhimo, general secretary of Sümi Kukami Hoho, delivered a short speech in which he asked the gathering to vote serially and not to go about it randomly.

He asked the colony GB’s of Zunheboto to let all the public give their votes serially for the smooth functioning of the election process. He also requested them not to allow camps in the colonies so as to avoid trouble. To have a clean election, voters should give their own vote, he stressed.

Vikheshe Muru, VP Zunheboto Town GB’s Association, said for a clean election to take place, everyone should participate and vote for their own choice of candidate. He asked the voters to stay in their own polling stations and give their own vote, not a proxy.
