Zunheboto V.K area organisations appeals UGs to refrain from extortion and illegal taxation at NH-2

A public notice issued by the V.K Area GB’s Association has appealed the various underground factions to refrain from engaging in extortion and illegal taxation at NH-2. It also informed that non compliance will result in harsh penalties.

The notice informed that the V.K Area Gb’s Association, V.K Range Students’ Union, V.K Area Peoples Organization and the Public leaders convened an emergency general meeting on the October 14 at V.K HQ Town Hall to discuss and address the growing concern of extortion and illegal taxation on National Highway by various Underground factions. The meeting culminated in a resolution to strictly prohibit all forms of extortion and illegal taxation at NH – 2 within its jurisdiction. “Noncompliance with the resolution will result in harsh penalties, and individuals or groups/Organization found guilty will face severe penalties and consequences,” the notice warned.

The leaders of the civil society bodies has, therefore, appealed to the various Underground factions to refrain from engaging in extortion and illegal taxation at NH-2.

“Failure to comply with, we will be forced to with draw our cooperation and take collective action. Further, the three civil bodies reaffirmed it’s stand to join hands with the Administration and police department in keeping the 20km stretch of NH-2 from Doyang to Izheto Village free from anti social elements,” it further stated.

The three civil bodies further reaffirmed their pledge to safeguard the well-being and protection of travelers. “Ensuring the safety and security of travelers has always been our top priority,” the notice added. The meeting also notified the people concerned especially travelers to contact the provided helpline numbers in the event of any incidents, mishaps, threats or unwanted interactions with anti-social individuals/groups.
