While addressing the Tree plantation program organized by the High Court Bar Association Kohima on May 17, Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio informed that Nagaland started the New H’ complex from the state fund spending over 240 crore. “Our State’s financial position is not good. To complete this HC , to furnish and to make it functional with staff quarters, we will be requiring about 300 crore,” he added during the event held at the New High Court Complex in Meriema.

Rio also mentioned that states like Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura and Manipur received 100 percent funding from the Government of India for construction of High Court. “But Nagaland till today have not received any grant from GOI for construction of High court,” noted the CM.

Considering the opportunity to have a separate HC, Dr. Rio stated that he had earlier approached the Ministry and Home Minister to implement the same in Parliament for amendment. The CM and his team also visited the Chief Justice of India.

To convince the GoI,Rio further said that they did everything while also keeping the old HC complex ready. “Rooms for court was constructed, the Old CM’s residence was allotted for Chief justice and some ministers quarters were given to judges. Even without this complex, we could start but when Government of India thinks that it is not time for us to be given a separate HC, it is very unfortunate,” expressed Dr. Rio. However, he acknowledged that the pursuit to justice will continue.
