The 2nd Mojabi Open Futsal Tournament, organized by the Küpza Students’ Union, Mokokchung, was inaugurated today at Mojabi Futsal Turf in Salangtem Ward. The event commenced Imkongchuba, Chairperson of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering as the Guest of Honour, Imkongchuba lauded the union’s efforts in promoting sports and fostering camaraderie through such initiatives.
He expressed his hope that the tournament would continue in the years to come, providing sports lovers with a platform to come together, compete, and enjoy the game. “Sports is a very important activity, irrespective of age and gender,” he said, emphasizing its role in maintaining fitness, enhancing mental and physical well-being, and encouraging an active lifestyle.
Highlighting the value of team sports like futsal, Imkongchuba stated that they teach participants respect, discipline, and the importance of teamwork. “Playing as a team sharpens skills, builds relationships, and fosters coordination,” he noted. He also emphasized that sports events can serve as opportunities for players to showcase their talents, potentially discovering future stars like Dr. T. Ao from among the participants.

Imkongchuba urged participants to embrace true sportsmanship and discipline, reminding them that such qualities could pave the way for opportunities at national and international tournaments. He further encouraged the youth to take sports seriously, pointing out that while government employment avenues are saturated, sports can create alternative career opportunities for dedicated athletes.
Concluding his speech, he advised participants to seek God’s guidance and blessings in all their endeavors, emphasizing the importance of faith and hard work in achieving success.
The program began with Merenchila Imchen presiding as the Chairperson, followed by an invocation by Anungla Jati. Opangnungba, President of Küpza Kaketshir Telongjem (KKT), delivered the welcome note. The event concluded with a benediction by Tongpangwati, officially marking the beginning of the tournament with the official “KICK OFF” from the Guest of Honour. A total of 14 teams are participating in the tournament.
