37th National Games: Nagaland in 24th position with four medals

Goa: Sudhir Chauhan secures Bronze for Nagaland in Taekwondo

With seven days more to go of the 37th National Games, Nagaland athletes have made history by giving the State its best performance at the Games. Nagaland is placed in the 24th position in the medal tally with four medals, including one Gold, one Silver and two Bronze. Three of the medals have come from Pencak Silat and one from Taekwondo.

On 31 October, Sudhir Chauhan fetched Nagaland a Bronze medal on Tuesday in the 87 Kg category of Taekwondo at the National Games 2023 taking place in Goa.

Earlier, the women’s Regu Pencak Silat team comprising Liike Kibami, Hinokali and Avikali V Sheqi secured Bronze, Liike Kibama won Silver Medal in Tanding Female Class 55-60 kg category in Pencak Silat while Kitenlo K Thono struck Gold in n the 90-95 Kg Tanding Fight Category in Pencak Silat.

The 37th National Games was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26 October 2023 at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao, Goa. Over 10,000 athletes from all States and Union Territories of the country and Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) are competing in over 43 sports disciplines across 28 venues.

Maharashtra is on top of the medal tally with 135 medals (55 Gold, 41 Silver, 39 Bronze) followed by SSCB with 51 medals (29 Gold, 12 Silver, 10 Bronze).

On the 9th position is Manipur, the best performing among the North Eastern States, with total 27 medals (8 Gold, 5 Silver, 27 Bronze).
