3rd Inter-Department Badminton Tournament Kohima Edition 2023 begins

Kohima: Bendang Jamir, a 78-year-old international player, is oldest participant in tournament

The 3rd Inter-Department Badminton Tournament commenced on Friday at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Multi-Purpose Hall in Kohima, DIPR informed. The tournament is organised by the Inter-Department Badminton Club Kohima.

Inaugurating the event, Vyasan R, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, highlighted the importance of the tournament and urged the players to maintain discipline as sportsmen, not only during the tournament but also in their everyday lives.

Drawing from his own experience as a badminton player, he reminisced his active participation and the camaraderie with fellow players on the court. Vyasan R extended his thanks to IDBC Kohima for organizing the tournament and wished all the players the best of luck. He hoped that the best players would emerge victorious.

The two-day IDBC Kohima tournament saw participation from 24 departments, with over 100 players. Among them, Bendang Jamir, a 78-year-old international player, is the oldest participant, adding a touch of uniqueness to the event.

The program, chaired by Kelhikha Kenye, featured an invocation by Keneiselhou Solo, Pastor at ACRC, and a welcome speech by Shanavas C, IAS, President of IDBC Kohima.
