3rd North East Games 2023 begins

Chümoukedima: Kitenlo K Thono leads solemn oath-taking ceremony during inauguration programme

The 3rd edition of the North East Games has begun in Nagaland. Out of the total 15 sporting disciplines included in the Games, 12 are scheduled to begin today in various locations in Chümoukedima, Dimapur and Kohima. Over 3000 athletes are participation in the Meet.

Sportspersons from the eight States of the North East are presently competing in Table Tennis, Wushu, Sepaktakraw, Basketball, Badminton and Football. Contests in Volleyball, Pecak Silat, Athletics, Boxing, Lawn Tennis and Archery are also scheduled to begin today.

The matches are being live streamed on YouTube at the official account of Nagaland Olympic Association.

The North East Games 2024 was declared open by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday evening at the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence, Sovima. In his address, he lauded the North East Sports Association (NESA) for bringing together the eight states under this platform with the vision to inspire unity and to collectively develop and nurture sportsperson of the North East Region.

Kitenlo K Thono, Nagaland’s star in Pencak Silat, led the solemn oath-taking ceremony, underscoring the commitment of participants to uphold the principles of fair play and integrity. The raising of flags representing North East Games 2024, Nagaland Olympic Association and Department of Youth Resource and Sports further underscored the spirit of camaraderie and collaboration.

The Games will conclude on 23rd March 2024.
