52nd Angami Sports Association Meet on March 16

The 52nd meet of the Angami Sports Association (ASA) is set to take place on March 16, at Khouchiezhie Local Ground, Kohima. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Nagaland Olympic Association office Complex on February 19. ASA, established in 1967, is one of the oldest associations in the Angami region.

During the press conference, Lhoubeizo Kesiyie, ASA President informed that a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh will be awarded to the wrestlers, marking the first time that all participants will receive a cash reward. The cash prizes for the winners are as follows: Champion : Rs. 2,50,000, 1st runners up Rs. 1,70,000 for the 2nd  runner-up, Rs. 1,30,000 for the 3rd runner-up, Rs. 1,00,000 and Rs. 20,000 for each of the four quarter-finalists. Additionally, a reward of Rs. 15,000 will be given to the wrestler with the best technique.

The four regions of the Angami community will compete in the meet: Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA), Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA), Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO), and Chakhro Youth Organisation (CYO), with a total of 60 wrestlers. From these, 18 wrestlers will be selected to represent the Angami tribe at the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) meet on March 26. The ASA also mentioned that this year, the Ground Management has been entrusted to the Catholic Union.

The organizers have expressed their anticipation of hosting an audience of 16,000. Ticket rates are categorized as follows: Donor – Rs. 2,000, Gallery – Rs. 100, Chair – Rs. 500.
