66th Kohima Village Sports Meet from 13th January; 600 athletes to participate

Kohima: Athletes from four khels to compete in 24 events with 136 medals up for grabs

The LXVI edition of the Kohima Village Sports Association (KVSA) Meet is set to take place from 13th to 20th January 2024. The biennial meet where the four thinuo (khel) of the village compete in various sporting disciplines, is organised by the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO).

The opening ceremony of the Meet will be held at the Kewhimia Ground, Ziekezou at 10:00 am on 13th January (Saturday) with Abu Metha, Vice President, Athletics Federation of India, Advisor to Chief Minister of Nagaland and Chairman of IDAN, as the Chief Guest. K Neibou Sekhose, Executive Member, All India Football Federation and President of Nagaland Football Association will grace the program as the Guest of Honour.

The Organising Committee has informed that over 600 sportspersons representing Kohima Village’s Dapfhütsumia thinuo, Lhisemia thinuo, Pfuchatsumia thinuo and Tsütuonuomia thinuo will compete in 24 events with a total of 136 medals up for grabs.

Besides the Kewhimia Ground, the LXVI KVSA Meet will be held in four other venues, namely, IG Stadium for Athletics and Shooting, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Ground for Basketball and Volleyball, State Indoor Stadium for Indoor Games and the 4th NAP Ground in Phezou for Cricket and Shooting.

Shooting is being introduced for the first time in the sporting event while Cricket will be making a comeback after being sidelined for some years.

In the last KVSA Meet held in 2022, Tsütuonuomia thinuo topped the medal tally with a total of 37 medals including 18 golds.

The Organising Committee also said that the LXVI KVSA Meet will be livestreamed on KVYO YouTube channel ‘KVYO Nagaland’ and the medal tally will be updated on the KVYO website and mobile application ‘KVYO’ which is available on Google Play.
