The Inter-Department Badminton Club (IDBC), in collaboration with the District Administration, Kohima, is set to organise the 6th Inter-Department Badminton Tournament 2026 on September 11 and 12 at the NLA Stadium, Kohima.
The announcement was made during a press briefing held in DC Office Kohima, where organisers invited badminton enthusiasts and players from various government departments and institutions to participate in the annual sporting event.
The tournament will feature four categories — Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Doubles for 50+, Legislators, Ex-Legislators and Retirees.
The entry fee is ₹3,000 per team, while the last date for submission of forms is September 7, 2026. The tournament will carry a total prize money of ₹1 lakh.
Speaking at the briefing, IDBC President, Er Sabou Yashu said the club has been conducting the tournament annually since 2020 and expressed gratitude to the Kohima District Administration for collaborating with the club this year.
He encouraged badminton enthusiasts from different departments to come forward and participate in the sixth edition of the tournament.
Kohima Deputy Commissioner, Henok Buchem said the tournament has been organised by the Inter-Department Badminton Club for the past five years and that the District Administration decided to collaborate with the club following its request.
He highlighted the importance of the tournament in promoting physical fitness, teamwork, camaraderie and healthy competition among government employees.

Buchem also encouraged employees from various departments to participate enthusiastically, while appreciating the IDBC for its continued efforts to promote badminton and sportsmanship among government employees.
Meanwhile, IDBC General Secretary, Kekhriesetuo Ziephrü said the tournament was initiated in 2020 with the objective of providing government employees with a platform to take a break from their routine office responsibilities and come together through sports.
He said the tournament provides an opportunity for employees to strengthen friendships, build camaraderie and share constructive ideas beyond their regular workplace environment.
Ziephrü noted that the first edition saw around 102 participants, with an average participation of around 70 to 75 departments in subsequent editions.
He further stated that the tournament has a total prize pool of ₹1 lakh, describing it as one of the badminton tournaments in the state offering a significant prize purse.
The organisers have also invited participants from government departments, banks and other government institutions to take part in the tournament and make the sixth edition a successful event.
