Financial literacy awareness programme held at Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church

Mokokchung: A one-day awareness programme on Financial Literacy was organised with S Amarjit Mangang, DDM, Mokokchung as the resource person

A one-day awareness programme on Financial Literacy was organised by Financial Inclusion cell, Regional Business Office (RBO), Mokokchung in collaboration with the Divisional Forest Office, Mokokchung (NFMP), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mokokchung supported under Financial Inclusion Fund managed by NABARD and the Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church (Mission) on 26 November.

The resource person for the programme S Amarjit Mangang, DDM, Mokokchung shared on the mandate of NABARD. He further shared on the potential linked credit plan document prepared for the district which highlights the credit potential of priority sector lending from financial institutions.

He informed the participants on Kisan Credit Cards and Self Help Groups, and shared on the schemes in NABARD which can help farmers and SHGs.

He also highlighted on the various interventions and initiatives taken up by NABARD in the district and shared the success stories of various Farmer Producer Organisations and projects under Tribal Development Fund. He further highlighted about the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance initiative.

Athili, Chief manager, Financial Inclusion SBI, RBO Mokokchung shared about the importance of investment and elaborated in detail about the Pradhan Mantri Social Security schemes, Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhanmantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and the Sukhanya Samridhi Scheme

Dr Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Mokokchung remarked that the farming community in Chuchuyimlang under the guidance of the Church (Mission) has been working effectively by motivating, assisting and linking with the scientific knowledge resulting in better harvest and he encouraged all the farmers to continue with the same spirit.

Presentation on activities done by the farmer’s group in convergence with the KVK and under the guidance of the mission was presented by Imtimongba, Mission Secretary, CBC.

Activities done by the SHGs under Forest department was presented by Akumtoshi, Team Leader FNGO.

Chairing the event, C Bendangonen Jamir, Mission Director of DBC shared that the mission of the church is to work towards experiencing the fullness of life. Jamir added that to command and to bless is God’s prerogative and it is the responsibility to seek, learn and to work towards fullness of life.

Dr Sentitula, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung shared that learning is a continuous process and remarked, “The more I learn, the more I discover my ignorance and therefore we all should strive to continue learning.”

The welcome note was pronounced by Rev T Lima, Pastor, CBC. The programme was attended by the farming community and important stakeholders from Chuchuyimlang and SHGs from nearby villages – Changtongya, Yaongyimsen and Salulemang.
