The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) has strongly condemned the reported incident involving an alleged attempt to rape, wrongful confinement, kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman by a 28-year-old private taxi driver while travelling from Kohima to Chiephobozou on October 17, 2026.
Addressing the media on Tuesday at ANTA Office Kohima , ANTA Treasurer Kelhoukhrielie Chielie stated that the incident reportedly occurred at around 1:30 p.m., when the vehicle allegedly failed to stop at the intended destination and instead took the woman towards the Chiechama-Botsa area.
Describing violence against women as a serious violation of human dignity and human rights, Chielie stated that all forms of violence were unacceptable and had no place in a civilised society. It further stated that crimes against women were not only offences against humanity but also against the moral values of Naga society.
The Association expressed solidarity with the victim and her family, while appreciating the victim for coming forward and lodging a First Information Report (FIR) despite the reported mental and physical trauma she had endured.

Chielie also clarified that private vehicles allegedly operating as taxis without authorisation were not members of the association. It stated that such unauthorised operations tarnished the image of genuine and hardworking taxi drivers who served the public with honesty and dedication.
Calling for accountability, Chielie urged law enforcement authorities and all concerned agencies, associations and organisations to ensure a thorough, impartial and expeditious investigation into the matter. It further called for the accused to be brought to justice and urged that bail not be granted.
The Association also appealed to all sections of society to unite against violence towards women and support efforts to ensure safety, justice and dignity for all. It urged the public to report private vehicles operating illegally as taxis to ANTA or the concerned authorities.
ANTA reiterated its commitment to promoting a society where women can live and travel without fear, stressing the need for collective responsibility in safeguarding the dignity and security of women.
