First dementia screening programme for senior citizens held in Noklak

A Dementia Screening Programme for senior citizens- Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) initiative was held for the first time at District Hospital, Noklak on March 9. The programme was organized by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Health & Family Welfare Department. Altogether, 96 senior citizens were screened during the health camp.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Noklak, Dr. Victor, explained about dementia and how the disease commonly affects people in old age. He urged the elderly to openly share their health concerns with doctors and nurses.

Highlighting causes such as head injury, thyroid disorders, high blood pressure, and high sugar levels, he also noted that environmental pollution can contribute to various health issues. Emphasizing that prevention is better than cure, he advised maintaining a balanced diet with organic and protein-rich foods.

District Programme Officer (ICDS), Ajongla Temjen, in her address encouraged the elderly persons to extend full cooperation to the caregivers during the screening process.

Eaelier, the program was chaired by Vein M, DMC, DHEW, invocation by Thango K , Associate Pastor,(NTBC).
