The Nagaland Two Wheeler Taxi Association (NTWTA), Kohima H.Q. celebrated its 7th Foundation Day at Tsiesema Basa on October 2.

KMC Councillor of Ward 18, Medoviu Suohu called for greater opportunities for indigenous people within the community. He also urged the Nagaland Taxi Workers and Transport Association (NTWTA) and the government to extend due consideration to riders currently operating under permits held by other individuals.

NTWTA president, Keneisalie Belho said the Foundation Day was an occasion to reflect on the association’s journey, achievements and challenges while renewing its commitment to growth.

He stressed the importance of unity, discipline, road safety and responsible conduct among members, urging them to follow traffic rules and treat passengers with respect. He also called for stronger ties with local communities, village authorities, youth organisations and other associations.

Choyoli received the Best Rider Award for his discipline and good conduct. Sponsored annually by the family of late Kekhriesilie V Rio since 2022, the award honours Rio’s contribution to the association.

Rio joined the association in 2019 and served as an active member for four years before his death on August 13, 2022, at the age of 33 following an illness. The award was instituted in his memory to recognise the dedication and commitment he displayed as a rider.

A special number was presented by Moarenla Aier, while the invocation was pronounced by James Kamai. Grace Kath, Women Coordinator, NTWTA, delivered the vote of thanks.

The Association currently has 420 registered riders and 17 executive members.
