The Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland (LMFN) has urged the Northeast Frontier Railway to enhance rail connectivity between Dimapur and Guwahati, citing growing inconvenience faced by daily commuters.
In a memorandum submitted to General Manager, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava at Maligaon, Guwahati, the forum, led by its Chairman Bishnu Bhattacharjee, called for the introduction of a daily morning train service from Dimapur.
The proposed service, the forum said, should ideally depart between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. and reach Guwahati by 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., offering a convenient option for thousands of passengers who depend on this key route.
Highlighting the importance of Guwahati as the primary gateway to the Northeast, LMFN stated that the city provides crucial connectivity to long-distance trains, air travel, healthcare, education and business hubs.
However, the absence of a suitable morning train has been causing significant inconvenience to commuters, including students, patients, office-goers and businesspersons from Nagaland as well as neighbouring states like Manipur.
The forum noted that a similar train service had operated in the past, and its discontinuation or rescheduling has adversely affected regular passengers. It urged authorities to restore a practical morning schedule to ease travel challenges.

Emphasising the strategic importance of Dimapur, LMFN pointed out that it is among the highest revenue-generating railway stations in the Northeast after Guwahati, and therefore merits improved connectivity.
The forum also appealed for the reintroduction of the Brahmaputra Mail via Dimapur, describing it as a vital rail link that previously served the region effectively.
Additionally, it proposed the introduction of a dedicated daily commuter train between Dimapur and Guwahati to cater specifically to office-goers, stating that such a service would boost regional mobility and strengthen economic and social integration.
Expressing optimism, the forum said the railway authorities would give due consideration to the public demand and take appropriate steps in the interest of commuters across Nagaland and adjoining areas.
