A District Level Awareness Programme on Adoption Regulation and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was successfully conducted on April 28 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Shamator. The programme was organized by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Shamator.
Lulun Singson, Officer-in-Charge of Police Station Shamator, delivered a short speech stressing the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing crimes against children.
A detailed presentation on the POCSO Act was given by Cherry Ovung, Legal Cum Probation Officer, DCPU Shamator. She elaborated on the provisions of the Act, reporting mechanisms, and the responsibilities of individuals and institutions in protecting children from sexual offences.
Further, Mungphula, Member of the Child Welfare Committee, Shamator, spoke on Adoption Regulations and Guidelines. She explained the legal procedures, eligibility criteria, and the importance of ensuring transparency and child welfare in the adoption process.
An interactive session followed, where participants actively engaged with the speakers, raising questions and clarifying doubts related to adoption and child protection laws.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lunsi Yimchunger, Counsellor, Child Helpline 1098, Shamator. He expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, organizers, and participants for making the programme successful.
The awareness programme was informative and impactful, contributing significantly to enhancing understanding of child protection laws and adoption procedures among the participants. It reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the safety and well-being of children in society. Earlier, the programme commenced with an invocation prayer led by Rev R Thsankiu, Pastor Shamator Town Baptist Church, this was followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Imtisanen, District Child Protection Officer, who highlighted the importance of creating awareness on child protection laws and ethical adoption practices.
The session was chaired by T Hanlula, Manager of the Specialized Adoption Agency, Shamator.
