DPDB Chumoukedima discusses key developmental issues

The monthly meeting of the District Planning & Development Board, Chumoukedima was held on May 11, under the chairmanship of Zhaleo Rio, Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs and Chairman DPDB, at the DPDB Hall, Chumoukedima.

The meeting was attended by Polan John, Deputy Commissioner along with heads of departments and board members. The board deliberated on several important developmental agendas concerning education, infrastructure and administrative matters in the district.

During the meeting, Zhaleo Rio called upon all concerned departments and stakeholders to remain prepared for the upcoming monsoon season and stressed the importance of ensuring that drainage systems are properly cleared and maintained to prevent waterlogging and flooding during the monsoon period.

He urged the authorities to take timely preventive measures in vulnerable areas to minimize possible risks and inconveniences to the public. He further directed that information and awareness regarding monsoon preparedness should be disseminated to colonies, wards and villages so that citizens remain alert and cooperative during the season.

Emphasizing the need for collective efforts, Zhaleo Rio appealed to all departments to coordinate and work together to ensure effective preparedness and response mechanisms during the monsoon season.

On developmental planning, the Advisor emphasized that development initiatives should cover the entire Chumoukedima district and not remain concentrated in only one area. Referring to the existing railway station at Sukhovi, he stated that strategic planning and organized development must begin now in preparation for future growth.

He further stressed the need to develop the district in a more systematic and organized manner to ensure balanced infrastructure expansion and long-term urban planning across all areas of the district.

The Police Department was also directed to strictly regulate and enforce speed limits in order to ensure road safety and prevent accidents across the district. The Advisor emphasized the need for regular monitoring, awareness campaigns and coordinated enforcement measures, particularly in accident-prone and crowded areas.

Among the agendas discussed during the meeting was the recognition of Cinnamon Pre-School located at Ward-II, Chumoukedima. Under society registration, the proposal for registration of Yimkhiung Baptist Borü-Naga United Village was also placed before the board for consideration.

The meeting further deliberated on proposals for upgradation of schools in the district, including the upgradation of Appleseed Pre-School at Sugar Mill, Chumoukedima to a Primary School, Dovecot Christian School (DCS), Seithekema to an Upper Primary School, and Government Middle School ‘C’ at Seithekema to a Government High School. The board also discussed proposals for establishment of a Government Degree College at Medziphema and a District Transport Office for Chumoukedima district.

Further, a PowerPoint presentation was delivered by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chumoukedima on matters pertaining to the district, while another presentation was given by the Department of Sericulture.
