A special awareness and sensitization programme for brick kiln units under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), organised by the District Industries Centre (DIC), Dimapur in association with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), was held at the Conference Hall of Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on May 21.
The programme aimed to create awareness among brick kiln owners and workers on air pollution, promote cleaner and environmentally friendly brick kiln practices and support the objectives of the National Clean Air Programme.
Speaking at the programme, Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ‘B’, NPCB, highlighted the impact of ambient air quality and emphasized its effects on human health, the environment and climate. He stressed the importance of maintaining clean air standards and stated that protecting air quality is a shared responsibility. He further added that proper pollution control measures can help create a healthier and safer environment for future generations.

Senior Environmental Engineer, NPCB, Aghali A Swu, shared on environmental compliance in the brick kiln industry and highlighted the sector’s important role in construction activities and employment generation. She also spoke on the major environmental issues associated with brick kilns, the importance of environmental compliance, and the need for adopting cleaner technologies.
The programme was chaired by N Abeno Lotha, FM, DIC Dimapur, while the welcome address was delivered by Shri Chikuotho Nyusuo, GM, DIC Dimapur. The vote of thanks was proposed by Lucy Ngouri, FM, DIC Dimapur.
An interactive session and discussion was also conducted at the end of the programme, during which queries and suggestions from participants were taken up and addressed thoroughly by the resource persons.
