ASF outbreak reported in Mon, Medziphema

Deputy Commissioner, Mon, Wennyei Konyak, NCS informed all the citizens of Mon that report have been received regarding the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in certain areas of Nagaland, including adjoining districts. The disease being highly a contagious viral disease poses a serious threat to pig populations, requiring immediate preventive and containment measures to stop further transmission.

It has become necessary to regulate and restrict the movement and export and import of pigs and pig-related products from Mon District and import from outside the district in the interest of public safety, animal health, and disease containment;

Therefore, in exercise of powers conferred under the relevant provisions of law and in the interest of public safety, animal health and disease containment to prevent the spread of ASF, the Deputy Commissioner has prohibited export and import and transportation of live pigs from Mon district to other districts and outside the State and import from other District and outside the State until further orders.

As per the order, no person, trader, transporter, firm, or association would transport, export, import or facilitate movement of pigs from Mon District and to Mon District without prior clearance and certification from the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services.

There would be total ban on sale of pork in the entire district till such time the ASF is neutralized.

All check gates, police personnel, veterinary officials and administrative officers have been asked to strictly monitor and enforce this order.

Any pig found exhibiting symptoms of ASF, including sudden death, high fever, weakness, skin discoloration, or abnormal behaviour, must be reported to the nearest Veterinary authority.

Slaughter, sale, or transportation of suspected infected pigs has been strictly prohibited.

Village Councils, ward authorities, GBs and public leaders are directed to cooperate fully with the District Administration and veterinary department in surveillance, reporting, and containment measures.

Any person violating this order would be liable for penal action under relevant provisions of law, including the Disaster Management Act, epidemic-related regulations, and other applicable laws.

Medziphema:

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Medziphema, James Swu has issued a circular in view of the reported cases and rumours pertaining to possible outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) within Medziphema Sub-Division, and pending confirmation of laboratory test results, it has become necessary to regulate the slaughter and sale of pigs/pork in the interest of public safety and disease prevention.

The ADC has ordered with immediate effect that no individual, butcher, trader, farmer, or any person shall slaughter any pig for commercial sale or distribution within Medziphema Sub-Division without obtaining prior permission from the District Administration.

Any person intending to slaughter a pig for sale should first report the matter to the office of the undersigned and seek necessary approval.

Verification and inspection of the concerned pig(s) shall be conducted by Kevilelie Keyho, Livestock Inspector VFATI who is the authorized official designated for the purpose, and slaughter shall be permitted only after clearance is accorded.

Sale, transportation, or distribution of pork without such approval and verification shall be treated as violation of this Order and necessary action shall be initiated as per law.

All village authorities, GBs, ward authorities, butchers, meat vendors and concerned citizens are directed to strictly comply with this Order in the larger interest of public health and animal disease containment.
