Sensitization programme on Vector Borne Diseases, under the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP), was held with the key word “Fight the Bite, Defeat Vector Borne Diseases” at the Town Hall, Bhandari on July 30.

In a keynote address, EAC Bhandari, Kilangtemsu, NCS, noted that the medical department with the support of the district administration, Bhandari have remained active for prevention of vector borne diseases in the sub division by initiating localised steps in creating public awareness and organizing social works to maintain sanitation, clean environment and public health safety.

Jt Director & SPO, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) Kohima, Dr Imnapokim, while speaking on causes of transmission, symptoms, prevention and treatment of Malaria, Dengue, and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) stressed that climatic condition of Bhandari is favourable for mosquito breeding and urged all stakeholders to share responsibilities in keeping the diseases at pay. He also urged them to utilize properly the anti-mosquito materials provided by the government from time to time.

Speaking on the benefits of the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine, (HPV) Jt. Director, UP, Dr. Imkongtemsu Longchar pointed out that the vaccine is for the purpose of prevention of cervical cancer and to secure healthy future for young girls.

The programme was attended by councillors from the Bhandari Town Council, Bhandari town Lotha Hoho, Eloe Hoho Bhandari, GBS and Church leaders and villagers from Bhandari town, and health workers from medical department, Bhandari.

The programme was chaired by Dr Lichamo K Tungoe, Dental Surgeon CHC Bhandari.
