Following confirmation of African Swine Fever (ASF) in a pig farm at Ward-9, Medziphema Town, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Medziphema, P James Swu, has issued a circular imposing immediate containment and preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.
According to the circular, the Chief Veterinary Officer, Chümoukedima, confirmed on May 25, 2026 that pig tissue samples collected from the farm tested positive for ASF.

The order imposed a complete ban on transportation of pigs, piglets, pork, and pork products from and within the containment and surveillance zones. Slaughter of pigs for commercial or private purposes, along with sale and distribution of pork and pork products within the notified zones, has also been prohibited until further orders.
Pig farmers and residents have been advised to immediately report any unusual sickness or death of pigs to the nearest Veterinary Officer or concerned department.
The circular further stated that disposal of pig carcasses must be carried out strictly according to protocols and guidelines prescribed by the Veterinary Department. Surveillance and monitoring activities will be conducted by the Veterinary Department in coordination with law enforcement agencies.
